How To Use NIKWAX

Be sure to read the directions in their entirety on the back of each NIKWAX container when your product arrives.

Footwear

  1. Clean your riding boots with Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel.
  2. Dampen boots with a moist towel.  This will allow the the Aqueous Nikwax to enter the leather insuring the highest waterproofing of the boot's inside and outside.
  3. Apply Nikwax Aqueous, or Aqueous Black to your boots.
  4. Finish off with a coat of Nikwax Paste Wax or Liquid Nikwax

Boots should be treated each season that you ride.

Gloves

  1. Apply Glove Proof to your leather, fabric or leather/fabric gloves.  Be sure to moisten any leather on the gloves in advance so the Nikwax penetrates it.

Gloves should be treated every season that you ride.

Textile Jackets and Pants

Be sure to follow your manufacturers cleaning instructions.  Never run your riding gear in a top load washer with an agitator, always use a side load machine.  Be certain all zippers are zipped, buttons are buttoned and Velcro's are secured fully.  Do not use standard detergents with your riding gear as the residue blocks Nikwax's ability to wrap it's elastomers around the fibers properly.

  1. Hand wash or place 1-2 garments in a side load washer along with one capful of Tech Wash, as per the label instructions, and run a complete cycle.
  2. With the garments still wet, hand wash or run the load a complete second cycle pouring in a 10 oz bottle of TX Direct just prior to starting the wash.
  3. Remove the garments and machine or air dry them.
  4. For a touch up later on, use TX Direct Spray.

Garments should be treated 1-2 times per year, depending on how often you ride.
