PNW Moto Destinations: Brunch

The cooler weather is here, but that won’t stop moto enthusiasts from getting out for a short stretch when the weather is good.

Riders play our Café to Café Grand Tour every spring and summer and are led to dining destinations all over the Pacific Northwest. For this article, we’ll lead you to some local spots that are fun to get to and deliver the goods when it comes to flavor, sometimes with the added bonus of views or otherwise.

We break it down here by the largest metro regions for Sound RIDER! readers and subscribers. Feel free to send us a note with your suggestions for places to add in a follow-up article if you’re so inclined.

But if the weather is out of favor, you can always hop in your cage and go for a drive. Be sure to check each website before going so you know the current hours and menu offerings.

Seattle Metro

Island Lodge by Al Lago

Alongside the private Lake Tapps Golf Club lies this open-to-public gem. Most days they open at 11 a.m., but on Sundays they open at 9:30 a.m. with a full breakfast menu that includes traditional favorites as well as a prime rib scramble. Pick a clear day and you’ll be treated to a stunning view of Mt. Rainier as you imagine your next home just across the lake.

20818 Island Pkwy E, Lake Tapps, WA 98391

Calcutta Grill

Some golf courses have a way of serving up decent fare and great views all at the same time. Here we go again with the Calcutta Grill located at the Newcastle Golf Club. They don’t open until 11:30, but the menu is so diverse, including brunch offerings, you’ll probably want to return a few times to take in all the goodness.

15500 Six Penny Ln, Newcastle, WA 98059

Martini Brunch

Need an earlier feed time? Need to ride a little further? Brooke and Charlie Martin welcome you into their cozy award-winning diner at 8 a.m. most days of the week. There is no set menu here as chef is always creating and rotating favorites that always include some sort of bennie, hot cakes, and plenty of inventive potato sides. Local earth and ocean ingredients are the standard here. And let’s face it, Skagit offers some of the best back roads going.

1300 S 2nd St, Mount Vernon, WA 98273-4804

Portland Metro

Water Mountain

Head southeast from Portland to Silverton for some old-fashioned homestyle cooking that starts at 8 a.m. on most days. It’s a good location to fill up before and after you get lost on all the backroads out this way. And a romp up to Silver Falls never lets a rider down.

1397 S Water St, Silverton, OR 97381

Covered Bridge Coffeehouse, Bakery and BBQ

Need to get further out of town? Head down to Scio and pop into the Covered Bridge for a broad assortment of baked goods, salads, soups, sandwiches, and BBQ. Then go find a few of the 6 restored covered bridges in the area before making your way home.

38765 N Main St, Scio, OR 97374

Red Hills Market

Full-service bakery, kitchen and market, the goodies are here! Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. The route here is obvious, unless you get creative by grabbing a Benchmark Atlas and craft your own set of twisties. Offerings go beyond standards with items like wood-fired pastrami hash and the house-made market bennie.

155 SW 7th St, Dundee, OR 97115

Vancouver B.C.

Whistler Wildcard

Whistler makes a great fall riding destination from downtown B.C. The summer crowds are gone, the snow hasn’t hit just yet, so traffic is at a low point like no other time of year. And the food??? There’s plenty to be had. Restaurants are always changing, so do a little homework online and be sure to call ahead to make sure where you want to dine is open and not closed for maintenance.

River’s Edge Clubhouse

Nothing like sitting inside, along the edge of a river in the fall. The leaves are falling, the salmon are running, the eagles are dining, and good food is being served at the River’s Edge Clubhouse. Daily and seasonal menus offer standards and dishes made with the freshest ingredients sourced locally. Brunch is on Sundays starting at 8 a.m.

14282 Morris Valley Rd., Harrison Mills BC V0M 1L0

Martini Brunch

See the listing above. Grab your passport and ride the backroads down to this destination location.
